Three Irish boys and one Irish girl have made it through to the matchplay stages in the Boys Amateur Championship and Girls Amateur Championship at County Louth and Conwy Golf Club respectively.

After finishing day one with a share of the lead on -6, Portmarnock’s Adam Fahey put in a mature display in round two, parring each of the opening nine holes to remain that way at the turn. A bogey on 11 was no major disaster, and he regrouped to birdie 15 and 18 to finish strokeplay on -7, going into the matchplay as the 12th seed and plays Scotland’s Finlay Galloway in the round of 64.

He’s joined by John Doyle, who followed his opening 69 with a two-under 70 and the 18-year-old Fota Island star will be the 19th seed and faces Kinjiro Kato of Japan, while Clandeboye’s Harry O’Hara squeezed in as the 59th seed, shooting a three-under 69 on day two to get to -1 and through to the matchplay stage via countback where he’ll meet Wales Dion Regan.

Of those to miss out, John William Burke came closest to making it but his round of -1 left him two shots shy of the mark needed, with Louis Goodman, Mark Cadden, Rory Gallagher, Sean Reddy and Caolan Coleman also missing out.

Number one seed goes to  England’s Kris Kim who finished on -11 and takes top billing via a better back nine than Frenchman Callixte Alzas.

At Conwy Golf Club in North Wales, Hannah Lee-McNamara was the only Irish player to survive the strokeplay cut. The 16-year-old from Royal Portrush carded a three-over 76 to finish on +5 overall and become the 56th seed where she’ll face Manon Petitcolas of France who finished ninth in strokeplay.

Denmark’s Benedicte Brent-Petersen is the number one seed here after a stunning eight-under round on day two which followed a level-par effort on day one.

Roisin Scanlon and Olivia Costello missed out by two strokes, and the latter, who finished runner-up in the Spanish Amateur Championship back in March, will be bitterly disappointed with a bogey-double bogey finish which cost her her place in the knockout stages.

Gemma McMeekin and Molly Campbell also missed out.
