Dooks’ Tracy Eakin will take a one-stroke lead into the third round of the Senior Women’s Amateur Championship at Walton Heath, while David Mulholland and Alan Condren share ninth place in the Senior Men’s.
Eakin returned a level par 74 around the New Course to go with Tuesday’s 73 over the Old to sit on 1-under-par 147. She has a one-shot lead over Shelly Stouffer of Canada with whom she shared the first-round lead.
Malahide’s Alison Taylor and Deirdre Smith of County Louth share 12th place at +6, and Milltown’s Deirdre Walsh completes the Irish lineup contesting the final two rounds after the cut fell at +11.
Jody Fanagan went into round two as the leading Irish male, but he was forced to grind out a one-over 73 to cling on to a place in the top 20, while Castelknock’s Mulholland and Greystones’ Condren have matched each other with level-par 72s on the Old Course, followed by one-under 71s on the New Course.
Steve Graham of East Sussex National lies T33 at +2, while Tony Cleary of East Clare is a shot further back in a tie for 47th and made the cut on the number.
Englishman John Kennedy is enjoying a new lease of life in his first full season playing senior amateur golf, looking for his fourth straight victory.
Kennedy got to the top of the leaderboard with a six-under-par 66 – the low round of the tournament so far – around the New Course on Wednesday to go with his opening 70 on the Old. He sits on eight-under-par 136 with a three-shot lead over Canadian Miles McConnell.
