Paul McGinley finds himself seven shots off the lead going into the third and final round at the Barbados Legends at Apes Hill after a level-par 71 following his opening round of 70.
The Dubliner, making his first tournament start last year’s Senior Open Championship, made the turn at -1 after mixing three birdies with two bogeys, but two dropped shots sandwiched a birdie on the way home and he slips into a tie for 15th.
South African James Kingston’s 65 was the joint lowest score on day one and he and Scotland’s David Drysdale now share the course record. While Drysdale struggled to repeat the heroics of day one, Kingston followed up with a two-under 69 to open up a one-stroke lead over Englishmen Simon Khan and Greg Owen, and Wales’ Bradley Dredge, with another Englishman in Robert Coles occupying solo fifth at -6.
Tournament host Ian Woosnam shot a three-under 68 to battle his way back to +2.
