Roisin Scanlon announced herself as one to watch for the future after she became the fifth Irish woman to win the Helen Holm Scottish Women’s Open Championship at Royal Troon.
The teenager, making her debut in the championship had her father Anthony on the bag and together they masterminded a commanding five stroke victory after 54 holes.
Scanlon carded a final round of 71 for a four-under total meaning she was the only player to finish the week in red figures.
The Woburn member started brilliantly with back to back birdies and recovered from a bogey on the par-5 4th with another birdie on the 6th.
Scanlon endured a rocky period around the turn when she bogeyed the ninth and double bogeyed the eleventh but birdies on the 12th and 16th allowed her to coast to victory.
“I’m really happy, I’m happy that all the work that I put in back in Albany is paying off,” said Scanlon who made her debut at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open last year.
“I was really nervous due to the fact the last round was on a different golf course where anything can happen but I played well. This is my first time playing this event and it’s so special to be out here on a Sunday.”
Kate Dillon finished in a share of sixth place on four-over-par after a round of 77.
Holly hamilton and Kate Lanigan were plus twelve while Jessica Ross was a shot further back with Aideen Walsh on plus sixteen.
