Seamus Power needs another low round to keep his hopes of a third PGA Tour win alive at the Corales Puntacana Championship.
Power carded a second round of 68 to climb to nine-under-par which is seven shots behind Joel Dahmen but only three shy of second place.
After a birdie on the fourth was followed by a bogey on the fifth, the West Waterford man roared to the turn with three successive birdies from the sixth and added a late birdie on 15 to rise into a share of eleventh place.
Dahmen is the man to beat over the weekend after he shot a round of 66 to reach sixteen-under and he leads by four from Garrick Higgo, Charley Hoffman and Michael Thorbjornsen.
Dahmen has set the 36-hole scoring record at the site of his lone PGA Tour victory back in 2021.
After keeping his card in dramatic circumstances last year, a victory would give him breathing room with a two-year exemption.
“Yeah, got off to a great start, made a long putt on 1 and 3 and things were going to be OK after that, and then the back nine’s honestly just way harder. I had a couple chances, missed a short one on 11.
“But you’re hitting longer clubs in, tougher pins and the wind started blowing a lot harder, so really happy with the pars I made coming in, made some nice ones there. But yeah, just really proud of not making too many mistakes out there.”
