Darragh Flynn wins Laytown Bettystown Scratch Cup in playoff

Darragh Flynn got his season off to a flying start as he birdied the first playoff hole to pip TJ Ford to the Laytown & Bettystown Senior Scratch Cup.

On what was a beautiful day for the beach, a thrilling day of golf took place just over the dunes and it was Flynn of Carton House who set the early pace with an opening 68 to lead by the minimum on three-under.

Co. Sligo’s Ford, James Temple and David Reddan were tucked in behind Flynn after morning rounds of 69.

Scoring proved more difficult in the afternoon as the wind got up meaning nobody in the top-12 shot better than 71.

Flynn carded an afternoon 73 to fall back to one-under-par while Ford was one better with a 72 as he forced extra holes.

Playoffs have been commonplace in this competition and it was Flynn who birdied the 37th to take the title.

Meanwhile, up the M1 at Royal County Down, Tiffany Mills won the Royal County Down Ladies Scratch Salver.

The Ryston Park golfer shot rounds of 79 and 81 to win by two shots from Kayleigh Mulholland.
