Ronan Mullarney shot the best score of the day in round two of the Alps Tour’s La Cigale Golf Open in Tunisia, but his hopes of further improvement were dashed as the final round was cancelled.
The Galway man made light of the persistent rain and gusting breeze in round two to post a four-under 68 that included four birdies and an eagle, and was due to enter the final round seven back but sharing 11th place at -1 and eyeing crucial Order of Merit points, but the weather that had wreaked havoc over the opening two rounds turned a little nastier and conditions were deemed unplayable.
Robert Moran was the only other Irishman to make the cut, and he has to settle for a share of 27th.
Spain’s Rocco Repetto takes the victory after posting a 66 on day one that was good for a share of the lead and following up with an impressive 70 on the brutal day two to take a one-shot victory over Italian Filippo Bergamaschi, with Frenchman Tom Gueant completing the podium a shot further adrift on -6.
Mullarney remains in ninth place on the Order of Merit, while Hugh Foley slips four places to 14th and Moran drops back two places to 18th.
