Anna Foster carded a final round 67 (following rounds of 72, 67 and 71) which included 5 birdies and an eagle alongside 3 birdies and moved her into a T14th placed finish at the Ford Women’s NSW Open at Wollongong Golf Club.
The Elm Park woman claimed almost $5500 for her efforts as she finished up on seven-under par, ten shots adrift of the overall winner, England’s Mimi Rhodes who won by two shots after a closing round of 69.
Castlewarden’s Lauren Walsh was the next best of the Irish in T43rd place following a valiant closing round effort of 68 which included 4 birdies on the bounce from the 13th before a final hole bogey.
Meanwhile, Annabel Wilson added a 71 to opening rounds of 75, 75 and 74 for a T55 placed finish and just over $1000.
At the top of the leaderboard Rhodes produced a composed final day display to take the spoils and earn a maiden Ladies European Tour (LET) victory. The 23-year-old rookie went bogey-free on Sunday carding a round of 69 (-2) to end the week on 17-under par.
Leading by one heading into the final round, she pipped Italy’s Alessandra Fanali and Australia’s Kirsten Rudgeley to the trophy after the former was forced to take a drop on the closing par-5 18th.
“I’m honestly still in shock,” Rhodes said. “But I’m so happy. I’ve worked really hard for this. I had a difficult week last week [missing the cut in Coffs Harbour], I went through a swing change and it obviously worked! I’m just really happy.”
“I was fine on the front nine but when it started to get tight I got a bit stressed. I kept breathing and tried to remain focused. It’s difficult in those situations but I’m just really glad I got it done.”
