Professional golf is coming easy to Liam Nolan at the moment and he looks set for another title tilt at the weekend at the MyGolfLife Open at Pecanwood.
Nolan carded a second round of 66 to move into the top-10 on ten-under-par, six shots off the pace set by last week’s winner Daniel Van Tonder.
The Galway man was going well on Thursday but a late double bogey left a sour taste in his mouth. He managed to pt that behind him and continue the great golf he has played during his time in South Africa with four birdies and a bogey in his first seven holes before birdies on the 10th, 12th and 16th completed a clean back nine.
“Continued some good golf into this week,” Nolan said afterwards. “I played some really good golf yesterday just made a couple of tired decisions coming in and I was determined to come out and make sure everything was fully thought through and I did that with a few tougher pin positions. Delighted to have weekend golf again.”
The 24-year-old is excited for the weekend and is clearly brimming with confidence after a morale boosting week last week where he finished third and one shot outside of a playoff.
“It was a great start to the season and it’s great to know that you are swinging it well you just want to keep it going when you know you are hitting it well, really looking forward to the weekend.”
Scoring looks to be very low in the sweltering heat, but Nolan certainly won’t be sweating because of the pressure and he looks to be taking it all in his stride.
“I like to take it easy, enjoy myself, enjoy the experience, it’s a privilege to be playing these tournaments and to be in the last few groups coming into the weekend, really enjoying it out there with my caddie.
“I don’t even know what number to put on it, it’s hard to gauge this week, just drivers in the fairway again and just have a good wedge game and I’ll be there or thereabouts.”
Play was suspended due to lightning in the area but Jonathan Caldwell got in just ahead of the hooter with a four-under 68 to move into a share of 32nd place on seven-under-par.
Royal Dublin’s Max Kennedy managed to avoid any disasters with a one-under 71 which leaves him on the cut mark at five-under-par.
The 23-year-old will he hoping to receive a first paycheque as a professional golfer.
Meanwhile, Dermot McElroy and Robert Moran will have the weekend off at four-over.
Killeen Castle golfer John Gough has also climbed alongside Nolan on ten-under after a second round of 68.
