Seamus Power’s struggles with injury continue after he withdrew from this week’s American Express Championship.
Power missed the cut at last week’s Sony Open and subsequently ruled himself out of this week with some back trouble as he prioritises being fully fit for the West Coast Swing where he will be in the field for two Signature Events on the PGA Tour.
Power also had to withdraw from the RSM Classic at the end of last year with a back issue.
The West Waterford man had fully revered from the hip injury that plagued the latter half of his 2023 season and ended his Ryder Cup bid for Rome but after making his return from injury he made a slow start to 2024.
The back issue seems to be more serious than first thought and the two-time PGA Tour winner was in pain during the opening round of last week’s Sony Open where he was wayward off the tee.
Power will now have a fortnight off before the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Waste Management Phoenix Open and the Genesis Invitational although it remains to be seen whether the latter will go ahead as planned at Riviera Country Club given the devastation caused in LA by wildfires although Riviera has escaped any damage.
