Roscommon star Olivia Costello fired a blistering five-under-par round of 66 to roar four shots clear after the opening day of the Copa Andalucia Femenia at Club de Golf La Canada.
The sixteen-year-old who has made three KPMG Women’s Irish Open appearances to date carded six birdies and just one bogey to hit the front with Maria Mora Adrover, Carlota Lopez Minguela and Katrina Bulkovska the only other players to shoot in red figures with rounds of 70.
Costello opened her round with four successive pars before back to back birdies kickstarted her round and she added a third birdie of the day on the par-4 8th as she turned in 33.
The teenager birdied the 10th and 13th and bounced back from a bogey on 14 with a birdie on the par-3 15th as she maintained her early stranglehold on this championship.
