Sara Byrne treated herself to a post round ice cream as she fired six birdies in a blistering front nine during a four-under 68 at the Final Stage of Ladies European Tour Q-School in Morocco.
Byrne had last week off after missing out on a card at LPGA Final Qualifying but she brushed off the jet lag and drained six birdies on the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th and 9th holes as she turned in 30 and in the lead.
She did slow up slightly with bogeys on 14 and 18 but she was not concerned and is sitting pretty in 5th place, three shots off the pace with four rounds to go with the top-20 earning category 12 status on the LET next season.
“Obviously, I went through the first nine holes six-under,” said the Dromoland Castle star who already has a full card on the Epson Tour next year, the feeder tour to the LPGA.
“Just everything was solid, I was hitting fairways, and it was hitting fairly close.”
Despite three-putting the 14th and not getting up and down from green side on 18, the Curtis Cup star is feeling good about her game as she tackles the Al Maaden Golf course on Tuesday.
“I didn’t have too many long putts for birdie either, which was really nice, so I was just hitting really solid. I slowed up a little bit on the back nine, but honestly it was just a three-putt and not an up-and-down, everything else was really solid out there.”
