Tom McKibbin would love to end a memorable year with a second DP World Tour title ahead of his final appearance of 2024 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa.
McKibbin clinched his maiden DP World Tour title last year in Germany but although he has not added to his tally he feels that he has taken his game to the next level this campaign, highlighted when he secured his PGA Tour status at last month’s DP World Tour Championship.
The Holywood man made the cut at the US Open and Open Championship and registered nine top-10s on the DP World Tour.
All that is missing is a win.
“I’d love to finish the year on a high and try and get another win,” he said of his goals and expectations for the week ahead.
“But I am just out here to try and enjoy the week, have a nice time here at what is a special place and just enjoy what this week is and have fun.”
The 21-year-old struggled at last week’s Nedbank Golf Challenge but he could be forgiven for being partly on his holidays after achieving his season long goal of reaching the PGA Tour.
He also broke into the top-100 in the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time this year and the icing on the cake of a memorable year would be to win again and break back into the top ton.
“It’s been a long year, good to come down here and try and finish it off quite nicely,” said McKibbin who is 109th in the world.
“To have progressed so fast the way I have through the years is pretty cool and gives me confidence going forward,” he added.
