As the showdown where Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau will face Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy edges closer it could be a taster for what is to come in 2025.

LIV Golf star Koepka might have let it slip that the event could be expanded into a proper Ryder Cup format.

Next week on December 17th, the players will go head to head in a two on two battle at Shadow Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas and Koepka suggested that the event could develop into something huge, hinting that a LIV vs PGA Tour Ryder Cup style contest could be in the pipeline towards the end of next year.

“I think the showdown is a great, a showcase for bringing the two tours a bit together and I think we’re going to do next year,” Koepka told Sports Illustrated.

“All of us can align and bring something bigger and better so we can have a couple more times where they can or just at least one more time where we can see most of the best players from both sides competing, more against each other.”

Koepka added that it could be a “LIV vs. PGA Tour Ryder Cup-style thing.”

Previous editions of ‘The Match’ or in this case ‘The Showdown’ have been successful. While the PGA Tour and LIV Golf are locked in merger talks, five-time major winner Koepka believes the event could be something enticing for spectators.

“This is growing into a big thing and I think that’s what would draw the fans,” he said.

Perhaps a LIV Golf vs PGA Tour Ryder Cup style event would have more needle than this friendly off-season exhibition but Koepka insists he and DeChambeau are there to win.
“I can promise you on the other side, they’re not sitting there wanting to lose,” insisted Koepka.

“Rory doesn’t, Scottie doesn’t want to lose to us and there’s no chance (we want to lose), we’re too competitive on our side. We don’t want to lose. This isn’t anything other than just us being competitive and wanting to beat those guys, and show them who the best players in golf are.

“I truly think you’ve got the biggest figure in golf in Bryson and then one of the (golfers with the) most majors. We’ve got a lot going on our side. We want to beat them, we want to showcase the world we’re the top two dogs.”
