Gary Hurley believers his attitude is in the right place to deal with the marathon six round test that will be next week’s Final Stage of DP World Tour Q-School as he looks for a second bite of the cherry at returning to Europe’s top flight.

Hurley has been there and done it when it comes to Infinitum Golf having earned a DP World Tour card at the Final Stage in 2022 to cap off a season where he had already come through the Alps Tour to earn a Challenge Tour card.

Although he had a solid campaign back on the Challenge Tour this year, he was unable to play his way back to the DP World Tour at the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final in Mallorca but he believes he is playing well enough to come up trumps again next week.

“Attitude is a big one, rest is a big one, two courses, you can get carried away with trying to perfect the preparation on the course and making sure you know every inch of it. I’ll take at least two days off where I won’t play at all and take it easy,” said the West Waterford man.

“I know the two courses quite well but the main thing is to be fresh on Friday It’s funny how it goes you can be three rounds in and think it’s nearly over but you still have three rounds to go. Six rounds is a funny one.

“I know I can do it, I’ve done it before, I was playing quite nicely going into it the last time. I feel like I’m playing pretty solid going into it this time as well so just stay patient and being present in what I’m doing and sticking to the processes that I go through.

“Good reflections good preparation, that’s me.”

While it may be last chance saloon for the 31-year-old, Hurley has reason to be optimistic about his chances heading to Infinitum after he ended his Challenge Tour campaign with a final round of 68 which was his best of the week and included eagles on the 1st and 13th as well as a back nine of 31.

“Happy with today, it’s been a decent week. Obviously I would have like to be in contention, that’s for another time I suppose,” reflected Hurley who hopes to have the found his range with the putter again.

“There was moments on the back nine that were very good. Today I putted a lot better. I played similar today and yesterday just hit a couple of loose ones yesterday that cost me a few shots and holed nothing. Really poor on the greens and today was like myself on the greens.

“Played the first hole nice, on 13 I holed a really long putt, was a nice couple of eagles.”
