Leona Maguire will have to wait until Sunday to get back in action as Tropical Storm Kong-Rey rendered the course unplayable at the LPGA and LPGA Japan co-sanctioned Toto Japan Classic in Otsu, Shiga.
The LPGA Rules, JLPGA Rules and Seta Golf Course teams assessed the golf course and determined that Seta Golf Course will be closed on Saturday due to the effects of the storm.
The third round of the TOTO Japan Classic is suspended until Sunday, Nov. 3, and the tournament has been currently shortened to 54 holes. Pairings will remain the same for Sunday, but starting times will be adjusted. The new starting times will be made available later today.
Maguire sits tied for 43rd at -3, while unheralded Japanese player Hana Wakimoto holds a two-stroke lead. Wakimoto, who is a member of LPGA Japan, has yet to win on the circuit but should the 27-year-old hold on to win, she would earn herself an LPGA Tour card for the 2025 season.
Her closest challengers are American Yealimi Noh and Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn. Jutanugarn is a 12-time LPGA Tour and two-time major championship winner, and has spent a total of 23 weeks as the number one-ranked female golfer in the world.
Noh is also searching for her first LPGA Tour victory, but the 23-year-old has registered four top-10 finishes in 2024 and has climbed to 81st in the Rolex World Rankings.
