BoyleSports has reported that Seamus Power is their biggest liability ahead of this week’s Black Desert Championship in Utah.
Thursday will see 132 players tee it up for the inaugural event as the PGA Tour returns to Utah for the first time in over 60 years, and punters are giving a confident vote to Seamus Power securing his first title of the year.
The Waterford native’s odds have been cut into 20/1 (from 25/1) with a tenth and eleventh place finish in his last two outings buoying confidence that he will take the stunning course in his stride, with Keith Mitchell, who lost out by a single shot in last week’s Sanderson Farms Championship, rated the 14/1 favourite.
Bettors who backed Mitchell in the BoyleSports Early Payout market last week were smiling however, as they were paid out as winners with Mitchell leading after 54 holes, despite the Tennessee man ultimately losing out on a first PGA victory in five years.
A wide-open betting heat also has punters looking for a big price competitor to spring a surprise, with Alex Smalley supported into 35/1 (from 50/1) off the back of a fine top-5 finish at the Country Club of Jackson.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “It was heartbreak for Keith Mitchell after losing out by the narrowest of margins last week, and while he’s favourite for a quick bounce back, Seamus Power has been really well supported to claim a first win of the year.”
