Golf Ireland is pleased to announce the appointment of three new captains for the U18 Boys, U18 Girls, and U16 Boys teams.
John Carroll, of Cork, who has been named Captain of the Irish Boys U18 team said: “It is a huge honour and privilege to take over as Captain of the Irish Boys’ Team. I’m really looking forward to working with the players and hopefully achieving success in both the European Championships and Home Internationals.” Martin Hynes of Athenry has been named team selector.
For the Irish Girls U18 team, Brenda Craig of Roganstown has been appointed Captain. “I’m delighted to be named Irish Girls’ Captain; it is a huge honour for me and my family who have been steeped in golf for many years. After spending the last few years travelling with U16 squads, I’m excited for the future of Irish golf and the emerging talent we have coming through. I’m looking forward to getting started and have high hopes for our journey ahead,” said Craig, who will have Valerie Clancy of Killarney as the team’s selector.
In the U16 Boys category, Des Molyneaux of Ballybunion has been chosen as Captain. “As a member of Ballybunion Golf Club and the Golf Ireland Munster Regional Executive Committee, I am honoured to be appointed Irish Boys’ U16 Team Captain. Following on from my role as Munster U14 Interpro team captain, I look forward to contributing further to junior golf, working with the High-Performance team, U16 team coach Ian Kearney, and all the players,” said Molyneaux.
