Séamus Power is six shots behind Keith Mitchell heading into the final round of the Sanderson Farms Championship.
Power carded a three-under-par round of 69 to move to fourteen-under-par and into a share of tenth place but a finish of bogey, birdie, bogey looks to have dented his chances on a day of very low scoring.
The Waterford man dropped a shot on the 2nd but three birdies in four holes from the fourth saw him turn in 34 before an eagle on the par-5 11th put him to within two shots of the lead on fifteen-under before his slow finish.
It’s a course that Power has played well at, going into the final round firmly in the mix during his rookie PGA Tour campaign in 2016 and finishing inside the top 20 in back-to-back seasons in the years following.
Sunday’s final day is also another big day for Power who can play himself into some signature events via the Non Next 10 on the PGA TOUR.
Mitchell finished with back to back birdies for a seven-under 65 to edge one shot clear of Beau Hossler on twenty-under-par.
The American is searching for his first win in more than five years, having had plenty of close shaves during that spell.
“I would like to think I could have won more than once with my game and I haven’t because I’ve succumbed to the pressure and tried to force things and did things out of my control,” Mitchell said. “You can’t do that. You never know what’s going to happen with the guys around you.
“My putter feels great. My ball striking was better today. I think it could be just a touch better tomorrow. But if I do hit a bad shot, understanding it’s okay to hit a bad shot and just get right back if play and try to make par and let my putter try to make some birdie putts when the pins are tough.”
