Aine Donegan and Beth Coulter look like they have carried on their Curtis Cup form into the US collegiate season.
Lahinch star Donegan who plays collegiate golf for LSU, carded a solid final round of 69 at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational which saw her move up twenty places into a share of 8th place.
Donegan had five birdies in her first nine holes including birdies on the par 5 10th, the par 4 11th and 12th and the par 3 13th as she climbed to six-over-par for the three rounds.(77-76-69).
Donegan’s round helped LSU finish the tournament in third place on the team leaderboard and she received praised from head coach Garrett Runion.
“I was really proud of the way Aine [Donegan] played today. She came out and played unbelievable the first 9. I would’ve liked to see her finish it off, but still a round of 69 out here is very impressive.”
Meanwhile, Coulter finished in a share of tenth place as she helped Arizona State to the team title at the Windy City Collegiate Classic.
Arizona eased to a six shot win on eleven-over-par.
At the R&A Student Tour Series event in Belvoir Park, Maynooth University’s Jordan Boles and Patrick Curran of National College of Ireland shared fourth place on three-under-par.
First round leader Boles carded a final round of 70 while overnight leader Curran slipped to a 74.
The winner was Fior Lorenzo of Italy.
“It’s good for me to win a student series tournament, but I think it’s a big thing for me winning as the only Italian here,” he said. “There are lots of good British and Irish players, so to beat them feels special for me.”
A final round of 76 saw Maynooth’s Kate Lanigan claim sixth place on three-under as Hanna Nilsson shot a final round of 71 to win by three shots on nine-under in the women’s event.
“Of course I wanted to win like my teammates,” said the Swede. “But I think Elice, William and Jesper winning set the example and that pulled me along to do like they did. The great thing about Halmstad is we win together, we lose together.”
