Conor Purcell had to wait a long time between the end of his first round and the start of his second round at the Swiss Challenge after round one was suspended due to flooding, and he only managed to get three holes in before play was suspended for darkness on day two.

But he’ll wish that he hadn’t played any as he covered those three in three-over thanks to a double bogey-seven on the first and another bogey on the par-3 third before packing up for the night.

Trailing by one overnight, he now slips five behind Benjamin Hébert who has moved into pole position at Golf Saint Apollinaire with four holes of his second round completed.

Purcell now sits alongside Gary Hurley and Cormac Sharvin who have both played 36 holes with the former shooting a level-par 72 and a one-under 71 in rounds one and two respectively, while the latter went 74-69.

John Murphy and Jonathan Caldwell won’t be waiting around to see where the cutline eventually falls as they sit on +6 and +7 respectively.

Hébert, like Purcell, had a long wait before getting his second round underway and the Frenchman birdied his opening two holes to move to six under par and one ahead of overnight leader Ben Stow in second.

The six-time Challenge Tour winner still has 14 holes left to play of his second round, and he is determined to keep concentration with 32 holes ahead of him tomorrow.

“I’m very pleased right now,” he said. “It’s very hard to manage the tournament due to the long delay because of the weather.

“It’s been a long day, but I will try to get as much rest as I can and prepare for another tough day tomorrow.

“I have to take it shot by shot and keep my focus throughout. I will try to do my best because there is an important weekend coming up.”

Frenchman Robin Sciot-Siegrist carded a three under par round of 69 to move into third place on four under, while countryman Pierre Pineau, Scotland’s Euan Walker, Dane Martin Simonsen and Norwegian Kristoffer Reitan are a shot further back in fourth.

The second round will re-start at 8:10am local time tomorrow.
