Tom McKibbin took advantage of one of the three remaining Rolex Events on the DP World Tour as a share of tenth place at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth saw him make a timely move on the Race to Dubai and keep his PGA Tour card hopes very much alive.

A final round of 66 on Sunday moved McKibbin into 14th place on the Race to Dubai which is 8th out of the 10 available places for PGA Tour cards as he leapfrogged back into the frame having fallen outside the top-10 in recent weeks.

“Very happy, for me to shoot six under makes me very happy with what the weather was meant to look like I would have taken anything under par but there was no rain and I was able to take advantage of the soft conditions,” McKibbin told Denis Kirwan of Meridian Media.

“A big finish for the end of the year is important for those points. It was important to have a good week here, there is a lot more points available this week and it was nice to finish off with a nice round.

“Busy stretch coming up, next week off and try finish off the year strong.”

McKibbin ticked off another career first as it was the first time he played alongside Shane Lowry in a competitive environment and the pair rubbed off on each other.

Lowry will head to Spain this week while McKibbin will take a break to ready himself for the final six events of the campaign, buoyed by his performance at Wentworth.

“This was our first time playing in competition, we had a good laugh it was very fun and both of us played very nicely and it was a very enjoyable day with Shane.

“My game feels quite good has done for the last couple of weeks, just haven’t scored well. This week and last week I played some very nice golf and it was important to play well here at an iconic venue at Wentworth and in a big tournament it was very good.”
