Robert Brazill and Alex Maguire shot matching three-under 69s to end day one inside the top 10 at the Clutch Pro Tour event at Kedleston Park in the English heartland.
Brazill made five birdies and two bogeys to reach his tally, while Maguire bogeyed three but had four birdies and an eagle, with the highlight coming early in his round having two birdies and a bogey already on the card.
They trail the trio of Taylor Carter, Daniel Smith and Haiden Hussein by three, with a further two at -5.
Next best of the Irish is English-based Tyler Hogarty on -1, with Scott Montgomery (+3) and Rory Williamson (+5) rounding out the scoring.
All of the Irish bar Hogarty will have late tee times for Tuesday’s second round, and both Brazill and Maguire in particular will be looking to back up their opening rounds and put themselves in a position to challenge the lead in Wednesday’s final round.
