Jack Madden couldn’t reproduce the fireworks of Thursday in the final round of the Clutch Pro Tour event at Mannings Heath and he was forced to settle for a tie for 17th.

The Dungannon native shot a best-of-the-day, eight-under 64 on day two to move to within one of the lead, and playing in the penultimate group, was seeking a fast start to the the third and final round. Unfortunately, it didn’t materialise, and two bogeys and just the one birdie on the front side meant he lost ground over the first half of the round.

A double bogey on the par-5 13th put an end to all title hopes, but he responded with two birdies over the closing five holes to salvage some pride and his eventual nine-under tally saw him the sole Irish player to make the cut finish tied for 17th.

Englishman Ryan Evans, one of three who held the 36-hole lead at -11, shot a closing five-under 67 to separate himself and seal a two-stroke victory over seven players who all finished tied for second at -14.

This group included former Irish Amateur Open champion John Gough, who played with Evans in the final group.
