Beth Coulter, Annabel Wilson and Aine Donegan are each safely through to the final round of the European Ladies Amateur at Messilä Golf in Finland, but two of the three lost ground on a difficult day where play was suspended due to lightning.
Coulter started the day at the head of the Irish pack, but six shots off the pace and she’s still at the head of the trio of Irish survivors but a two-over 74 means all hopes of a tournament victory have gone by the wayside.
It was a day that began in the most ideal of fashions as she carded an eagle-three on the opening hole, but sadly, that was the highlight of the day as she’d bogey six of the following 10 holes to fall to +4 on the day.
To her credit, she’d continue to battle and two birdies over the closing seven saw her restore respectability to the card, but she slips five places to T24 and is now 11 shots back of solo leader Louise Rydqvist of Sweden.
Castlerock’s Wilson had the round of the day from an Irish perspective, and it was all action on the opening nine as she made birdies at one, three, four, seven and eight and bogeys on two and six to make the turn at -3 with just two pars on the card.
The back nine was a little more straightforward, but bogeys at 10 and 15 and a solitary birdie at 17 saw her reach the clubhouse at +3 overall, but she climbed 40 places to T38 which saw her traverse the 54-hole cut mark which eventually fell at +5.
Donegan had begun the day at +3 and played the opening nine in level-par with two birdies and two bogeys on the card, and a further birdie on 11 had her eyeing a move into the top 20. Unfortunately, the closing stretch at Messilä was proving troublesome for most and she’d bogey three of her closing six to end up making the cut on the number.
Sadly, Anna Foster, Kate Lanigan and Emma Fleming all found themselves outside the top-60 and ties at the end of day three and their tournaments end with a round to spare.
