Lauren Walsh is safely through to the final round of the Dutch Ladies Open after a two-under 70 saw her come from the wrong side of the cutline and keep her hopes of playing her way into the AIG Women’s Open alive.

Walsh was out early in the morning wave and a birdie on her first got her into her swing straight away. Two bogeys were pulled back with birdies on the two par-3s, the fifth and the eighth, and a par to follow would see Walsh turn on one-under for her day.

A run of eight pars on the back were finally ended with a birdie on the 18th to move her into red figures for the week and, sitting tied for 29th, can attack on the final day before the tour breaks up for the Olympic break. She heads out for her final day in match twelve on Sunday with England’s Alice Hewson and Nuria Iturrioz of Spain for company.

Kim Metraux put on another show on day two, with a 65-67 seeing the Swiss five clear of England’s Liz Young heading into Sunday’s action on the Ladies’ European Tour. Lauren Walsh sits in a tie for 29th as the Dutch Ladies’ Open heads into its final day on Sunday.

Try as they might, the pack could not overcome the lead of the charging Metraux, who’s overnight lead was challenged early before the Swiss began her round in the afternoon swing. A five-under round two saw the Swiss five clear at the top heading into Sunday.

“A bit of a rocky start today, I didn’t hit too many bad shots,” said Metraux. “It just happened pretty quickly, and I was able to turn it around and hit more fairways and greens after that. It was a bit quieter at the end of the round which was enjoyable. “Asked about the conditions on course she added, “It was quite hot, especially at the beginning, but I went to university at Florida State so I got used to the warm weather and I enjoy that a lot more than cold weather, so it wasn’t too bad.”

Shannon Tan’s 66 saw her climb the board and join Liz Young from England in second place, but a five shot deficit faces the pair as they join Metraux in Sunday’s final group..

Fuenfstueck and Jana Melichova sit a shot back on T4 as the pack regroups for the finale on Sunday.

“It has been good,” said Young. “I haven’t struck my irons as well as I wanted to or as well as I have been doing lately,” said Young. “I have been working on a few things and getting it right on the range but haven’t been getting it right on the course. I changed my putting setup at the beginning of the week and that’s really helped, and I’ve been holing some nice putts.”

“It’s been going well the last few months,” she added. “It’s definitely been going in the right direction. Things are coming together. I am working on some things with my swing and this week it’s been there on the range, but not quite on the course, so hopefully tomorrow it will be.”
