An excellent team performance from Ireland saw them book a spot in the matchplay stages of the European Team Championships in Spain.

The Girls in Green made up of Beth Coulter (Kirkistown Castle), Anna Foster (Elm Park), Sara Byrne (Douglas), Aine Donegan (Lahinch), Annabel Wilson (Castlerock) and Emma Fleming (Elm Park) finished the 36 holes of strokeplay qualifying in fourth place on a combined three-under-par, seven shots behind leading qualifiers Spain.

Coulter finished as best of the Irish on six-under-par after rounds of 68 and 70.

Women’s Amateur Championship quarter-finalist Foster was two shots further back after rounds of 71 and 69 while Byrne was one-under-par.

Meanwhile, the men’s team finished outside the all important top-8, finishing in 9th place which means they will contest Flight B in the matchplay stages as will the Boys and Girls teams.
