David Higgins of Waterville and Headfort’s Brendan McGovern share the lead after the opening day of the Senior PGA Professional Championship in Moor Park.

Both players carded round of 66 to lie on three-under-par alongside England’s Stuart Little.

Higgins, the defending Irish PGA champion was level-par through nine after one birdie and one bogey but a strong finish of a birdie on 15 and an eagle on the par-4 18th saw him climb to the summit.

“I played nice golf today so its a good start to the week,” said Higgins.

“I hit drive and had 30 yards to the 18th so that was a good boost so I was happy with that. Everyone here is here to win, they all work hard at their game like I do so when we get on the course it’s a different story. If I can play the same I’ll be OK.

It was a similar story for McGovern who also got going on the back nine with three birdies in his last six holes.

Lough Erne’s Damian Mooney is a shot off the pace in a share of fourth place.
