Colm Moriarty’s afternoon wait was worth it as he claimed a one shot victory in the Specsavers Liffey Valley Pro-Am in Lucan Golf Club.

The Glasson professional carded a seven-under 66 on Friday morning and it was enough to edge out local man Richie O’Donovan by one with Jimmy Bolger a shot further back in third.

“It’s a lovely start to the season. I was fortunate to be away in the offseason playing and practicing and I made a few changes to my equipment and it was lovely to get out today and shoot a good score.

“Everyone is eager to get back playing and we have a really busy season coming up which is great.”

Moriarty carded eight birdies on the day with four coming in the first six holes before he added another on the par-3 8th.

His only dropped shot was on the par-4 3rd and a strong back nine of 34 saw him over the line including birdies on 13, 15 and 16.

“I gave myself plenty of chances and it was one of those days I got the ball on the fairways. In Lucan you can attack the pins from the fairways and I created a lot of chances and holed a few putts which was nice.
