Leona Maguire birdied three of her last four holes to storm into the weekend at the Ford Championship presented by KCC.
Maguire carded a second round of 65 to move above the extremely low cut mark (-5) on eight-under-par and she trails Hannah Green by six shots.
Teeing off three shots below the cut on one-under, Maguire started well and four birdies in eight holes moved her onto the mark before a bogey on ten dropped her one shot outside the cut once more.
A birdie on 12 restored parity but she guaranteed her passage into the weekend with three birdies in her last four holes to cap off a fine second round and she lies in a share of 28th place.
Green defied a headcold to shoot a career best round of 61 to lead by the minimum.
“I missed short putt on the first and I was like, ‘Oh, OK, that’s fine,'” Green said. “I really took advantage of the shorter holes we had. I also holed a couple really long putts, maybe even moved the hole — it was that firm. But just felt really good out there, just had a really nice morning.”
Green made eleven birdies, the second most ever behind Annika Sorenstam’s thirteen during a famous 59 in 2001.
Sarah Schmezel had a bogey-free 63 to match Peiyun Chien (65) at 13 under.
Azahara Munoz (68) and Hyo Joo Kim (67) are 12 under. Former US Open winner Yuka Saso shot a bogey-free 63 to move to 11 under. Lydia Ko is tied with her and three others following a bogey-free 64.
Lexi Thompson moved into contention with a second-round 65. She is among 12 players at 10 under.
“The greens are firm, which is nice, but it’s kind of forgiving, too, so you can be aggressive and make lots of birdies,” Munoz said.
Stephanie Meadow missed the cut on level-par.
