Lurgan amateur Annabel Wilson leads the Spanish Amateur Women’s International after the opening round at Real Guadalhorce Golf Club.

Wilson carded a three-under 69 in very windy conditions to lead by two shots from Italian Francesca Fiorellini.

The Irish international and former Curtis Cup star roared out of the traps with four birdies in seven holes before she double bogeyed the par-4 8th.

She responded with a birdie, bogey run after the turn but back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16 saw her move into the lead which she held despite a dropped shot on 17.

There will be 36 holes of strokeplay qualifying with the top-64 making the cut for the matchplay stages.

Kanturk’s Mairead Martin is next best of the Irish in T26 on six-over-par with Jessica Ross of Clandeboye a shot further back.

Currently, Kate Lanigan is a shot outside the cut mark on +9 with Olivia Costello in T86 and Marina Joyce Moreno in T96.

Meanwhile in the Spanish Men’s Amateur at Club de Golf Alcanada, strong winds affected the opening round with only half the field completing the first 18 holes.

Ryan Griffin is best of the Irish in T11.
