PGA Tour
The Paddy’s are set for Palm Beach Gardens this week as Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry and Pádraig Harrington head for the Cognizant Classic.
Formerly The Honda Classic, it’s a new name and new golf course as the PGA Tour begins its eastern swing with Florida set to be the base for the next four tournaments.
Although it is not a signature event, McIlroy has added it to his schedule as he ramps up his Masters preparations with the Holywood man set to play three successive events before he heads to the Valero Texas Open the week before Augusta.
Harrington meanwhile, a two-time winner of the old Honda Classic (2005, 2015), is hoping this is the second of four straight events on the main tour with invites hopefully coming his way in the meantime.
Lowry is in need of a big finish this week as he looks to play his way into next week’s signature event at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
DP World Tour
After a heavily populated Irish contingent in South Africa this month on the Challenge Tour, Tom McKibbin is our sole representative as the DP World Tour makes its way down for the SDC Championship.
McKibbin has been in excellent form this season making six out of six cuts and finishing 4th at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
The 21-year-old has the PGA Tour in his sights and is already a healthy 24th in the Race to Dubai.
LPGA Tour
Leona Maguire is threatening to contend but has seen stale weekends scupper her chances over the last fortnight in Saudi Arabia and Thailand respectively.
The Cavan woman will be looking to maintain a challenge across four rounds at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore.
Alps Tour
Robert Moran leads the Irish challenge in Egypt after a smooth bogey-free round of 66 which leaves him just four off the lea heading into the second round.
