Leona Maguire is being well backed to build on a solid start to her LPGA Tour season when she tees it up at the Drive On Championship in Florida this week, with BoyleSports clipping her into 30/1 from 35/1 to bag her first victory of 2024.
The Cavan woman made a significant career breakthrough at the same event in 2022 when she became the first Irish golfer to win a tournament on the LPGA Tour, and finished with a flourish at last week’s Tournament of Champions where a final round of 68 helped her to a 12th place finish in Orlando.
Maguire now makes the short trip to the Bradenton Country Club for the second event of the year, which sees American Nelly Korda chalked up as 11/1 favourite, while New Zealander Lydia Ko is a popular pick at 12/1 to go back-to-back following her two-shot victory last week.
Irish punters are also eyeing an even more lucrative win for Maguire as BoyleSports has clipped her into 6/1 from 8/1 to break her major championship duck before the year is out.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “It’s a huge year for Leona Maguire with the Olympics and Solheim Cup on the horizon, but she’ll be targeting those majors and Irish punters are showing confidence in a landmark victory this year.”
