Castlewarden’s Lauren Walsh is one step away from joining Olivia Mehaffey as a full member of the Ladies European Tour after finishing fourth overall in the Lalla Aicha Q-School Stage at Noria Golf Club.

Walsh put herself in the driving seat with an opening four-under-par 69, following up with additional red-figure rounds of 71 on day two and closing out with a 72 on day three to finish on seven-under overall, four behind the joint medalists Shannon Tan from Singapore and Scotland’s Alison Muirhead.

With 28 players eventually progressing from the qualifying stage, it was a relatively stress-free final round for the Wake Forest graduate, who knew that avoiding any catastrophic big numbers would see her comfortably through and as she traded four birdies with three bogeys, she did exactly that.

By making the final Qualifying Stage which is due to be held in Marrakech, Morocco from December 16-20, Walsh earns conditional status but starts would be few and far between and she knows that advancing through Final Stage Qualifying and earning her full tour card for 2024 is essential if she’s to make rapid progression in the women’s game having missed out by the minimum at the first stage of LPGA Qualifying a few months ago..

Meanwhile, there was no joy for either Abigail O’Riordan or Olivia Hunt, but of whom finished outside the qualification spots at Samanah Golf and Noria respectively.
