Phil Mickelson has hit out at golf writer Alan Shipnuck after he claimed the golfer had been telling people that Jon Rahm would be joining LIV Golf for next season.
Shipnuck claimed on social media on Wednesday that Mickelson had been privately telling people that Rahm’s move to the Saudi backed tour was a done deal.
Mickelson, who has Shipnuck blocked on Twitter (X) lashed out.
‘This isn’t true and I don’t know anything,’ Mickelson responded. ‘I don’t want to know anything and I haven’t said anything. Alan is the worst liar and a pathetic human.’
Rumours have been rife that Masters champion Rahm is defecting to LIV Golf given his close personal ties with Mickelson and Sergio Garcia.
Rahm and Mickelson share the same agent while Mickelson’s brother and caddie, Tim, coached Rahm in college.
Shipnuck didn’t take long in throwing a punch back at Mickelson labelling the left-hander a bulls*** artist.
‘I guess Phil tweeted at me? I wouldn’t know since he’s blocked me in a classic tough-guy move,’ Shipnuck posted to X. ‘But we all know that what he says publicly and privately are *very* different.’
Shipnuck and Mickelson have a fractured relationship. The golf writer published the novel ‘Phil’ a biography of the six-time major champion and he also wrote his most recent book, LIV and Let Die which details the fall out between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.
Shipnuck gives details of a conversation where Mickelson described LIV Golf as manipulative and coercive. A conversation Mickelson thought was private…
The pair have been taking swipes at each other ever since.
