Stephanie Meadow carded a two-under 70 on day one of the Toto Japan Classic but she lies seven shots off the pace set by Akie Iwai.
Meadow found herself one-over after dropping a shot on the par-3 16th which was her seventh hole before bouncing back with birdies on 17 and 18.
The Jordanstown native birdied the par-3 3rd hole and carded all pars on her way in to lie in a share of 46th place.
Meadow needs a good week to push her way into the frame for the top-60 and qualification for the season-ending Race to CME Globe Tour Championship. She is currently ranked 66th in the rankings with just one more regular event remaining after this week.
At the top of the leaderboard, it’s all Japan with Iwai holding a one shot advantage over compatriots Mone Inami, Yuna Nishimura and Nasa Hataoka on nine-under-par after a blistering 63 while Shiho Kuwaki is a shot further back on -7.
In total, eight Japanese players make up the top-10 after round one.
