Stephanie Meadow is six shots off the pace after the opening day of the Maybanmk Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Meadow leads the Irish charge on three-under-par after a opening round of 69 with Leona Maguire two shots further back after a 71.

The Jordanstown native carded a bogey-free final round last week and the carried that momentum into this week, opening with a birdie on the par-5 10th.

A nasty run of double bogey, bogey on the 12th and 13th dropped her back to two-over but she got one of those shots back with a birdie on 14 before a blistering back nine of 32 courtesy of birdies on 1, 3, 6 and 8 brought her into the red.

Meadow who shares 24th place so far is projected to fall from 67th to 69th in the Race to CME Globe Rankings given the low scoring with time running out to crack the top-60.

Maguire meanwhile is one-under after a mixed bag of four birdies and three bogeys and she is eight shots off the lead held by Thailand’s Jasmine Suwannapura.

Play was suspended due to inclement weather.
