Stephanie Meadow responded to a disappointing second-round by shooting a one-under 71 in round three of the LPGA BMW Ladies Championship in South Korea, moving up to a tie for 52nd heading into the fourth and final round at Seowon Valley Country Club.
A disastrous opening nine in round two saw her slide from five-under to one-over, but she’d cover her first nine in two-under in round three, before two bogeys in three holes on the way home again undid the good work. She’d round out the day with a birdie at the last, however, taking her back to level-par for the championship, but a long way off the lead that’s co-held by Australian Minjee Lee and South African Ashleigh Buhai.
Lee had enjoyed a two-stroke lead after 36 holes, but could only improve on her tally by a single shot, whilst Buhai’s three-under 69 saw her draw level and Lydia Ko matched the South African’s score to move within a shot heading into tomorrow’s fourth and final round.
“It didn’t really feel too much like a moving day,” Lee said afterwards. “But I feel like the wind was still a little bit tricky today. I probably didn’t hole as many putts as I wanted. Probably a little more misreads here and there.
“But, I mean, I finished with one-under and kind of felt like I wasn’t really making too much of a move. But hopefully tomorrow I can string together a few more birdies.”
Buhai, winner of the 2022 AIG Women’s Open Championship, went bogey-free in her third round and believes the formula is simple if the 34-year-old is going to capture her third LPGA Tour win.
“Don’t push,” she said. “Just stay patient, play my game. I can control my swing thoughts, and that’s all I can try to do. Goal is go make birdies out there, and it doesn’t quite go my way or it could go my way. But just know not to chase or push, I think, from past experience.”
