Liam Nolan may only be 23 but when it comes to pulling on a green jersey he is vastly experienced, winning a Home Internationals title and a bronze medal at the European Team Championships during an impressive Irish career.
Making his World Amateur Team Championships (Eisenhower Trophy) debut on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi, the Galway man is chomping at the bit to end a tremendous year with more silverware.
“Representing Ireland never gets old, it doesn’t matter what stage you represent them on whether it’s Home Internationals, Europeans or World Championships now, it never gets old,” smiled the South American Amateur and Brabazon Trophy champion.
“I always look forward to representing my country and even more so this week because it’s in front of the best golfing countries in the world and I am looking forward to flying the flag this week.”
Nolan is joined by fellow Walker Cup teammates Alex Maguire and Matthew McClean this week with eight of Stuart Wilson’s Great Britain and Ireland side in action in the UAE.
Ireland haven’t tasted Eisenhower success since 2016 when a team consisting of Jack Hume, Paul McBride finished tied third and Nolan is hoping to emulate that feat if not go a couple better!
“Three Walker Cup players, three players that have had phenomenal years over the last couple of years, plenty of trophies between all of us and loads of experience playing against the best players in the world, a lot of them playing this week. We’ve finished above these players a lot and we should be very confident in taking home a medal this week.
“Winning a medal would perfectly cap off what has already been an amazing year, to get a medal at a world championship for your country, small nation so we have that underdog in us so it would be amazing to take home a medal and hopefully the goal.”
