Stephanie Meadow made a three-stroke improvement on her opening round at the LPGA Buick Shanghai to card a one-under 71 and move up to a tie for 56th.

Meadow made three birdies at Qizhong Golf Club, but for the second day running, was left to rue a double bogey which undid much of the good work. Starting her round on the 10th, she birdied her first hole of the day, before dropping two-strokes at the par-4 15th. A birdie at 18 took her back to level-par for the day, and after eight consecutive pars on the front, she closed out the round with a birdie at the par-5 ninth to sign for a 71 that leaves her 11 shots off the 36-hole lead.

Without a cut to worry about, she’ll have the chance to make strides over the weekend, but at present, she’s projected to fall to 75th in the Race to CME Globe rankings with just a handful of events left before the LPGA season finale back in Florida.

Sweden’s Maja Stark continues to lead the way after backing up her opening 66 with a second-round 68, and she leads defending champion Danielle Kang by a stroke. Stark began the day tied with Thai Wichanee Meechai who could only manage a level-par round two offering and falls back to a tie for eighth.

The two Solheim Cup rivals will feature in the final group on Moving day, where Kang, is looking to set up a final day push to secure back-to-back wins at Qizhong even if they come four years apart.
