A closing birdie gave Joe Lyons a one shot victory at the International Senior Invitational in Cartersville Country Club.

After a blistering opening round of 65 the Galway man carded rounds of 73 and 73 for wire to wire win on five-under-par with Michael Hughett a shot further back in second place.

Lyons had teed off in the final round with a three shot lead and endured a rollercoaster day carding six birdies and seven bogeys including making his first par on the sixth hole after a topsy turvy start.

He bogeyed 17 to drop into a tie for the lead on four-under with Hughett.

Lyons finished in style with a birdie on the 18th to hold off the challenge of Hughett who closed with a one-under 71.

The Team Ireland trio of Lyons, Karl Bornemann and John Reynolds claimed fourth in the team event having started the day with a one shot lead.
