Fledgling pro Lauren Walsh continues to take to the pro game like a duck to water with another excellent opening display at the LET Access Series’ Lombardia Ladies Open.

A bogey at nine was her only dropped shot of the day as she carded birdies at four, six, seven, 10 and 18 for a four-under-par total that sees her into a tie for second at the end of day one.

Walsh trails only Danish girl Sophie Kibsgaard Nielsen, whose six-under was the round of the day by two, with Chiara Tamburlini of Switzerland joining Walsh at -4. Nielsen is the current LETAS rankings leader and Tamburlini lies third in the rankings and both look set to lock up one of the five LET cards for 2024.

Abigail O’Riordan, who’s Norfolk based but originally hailing from Laytown and Bettystown, lies tied for 56th after an opening four-over 76, while Northern Ireland’s Victoria Craig’s 81 means it’s a likely two-and-out for the Bangor lass.

Walsh, who helped Wake Forest to NCAA, has impressed on her three starts on the circuit to date, posting three top 10 finishes, including a runner-up at the Trust Golf Links Series in July.
