David Hughes, Richard Kilpatrick and Shane Jenkinson couldn’t be separated at the top of the Sutton PGA Matchplay Pro-Am.
The trio alongside their teams carded rounds of 48 points for the nine holes on a blustery day that still drew low scoring in Sutton Golf Club.
Hughes, Kilpatrick and Jenkinson all tied up at the top, one point ahead of four teams led by Brian McCormack, Colm Moriarty, Niall McGlynn and Steven Quinlan.
Meanwhile defending matchplay champion Tim Rice and his team were a point further back on 46 alongside Ryan Gribben of Naas and his team.
This was the curtain raiser for Saturday and Sunday’s Annesley Williams Skoda PGA 9 hole Matchplay where Rice will be looking to make it three successive wins.
Daniel Sugrue and Hughes will get things underway in the opening match of group one at 07:30 in the morning while Michael McGeady will tackle Richard Bridges.
Group 2 is the group of death with Irish PGA Champion David Higgins facing fellow champions Damien McGrane and Simon Thornton with David Ryan completing the quartet.
