Leona Maguire is being tipped as the star performer at this week’s Solheim Cup with BoyleSports making her joint favourite at 8/1 to be top overall points scorer.
The Cavan woman bagged her second LPGA Tour win this year at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Michigan and is the standout pick of the European side with punters, sharing favouritism with American Nelly Korda, who tees off in Spain ranked third in the world.
Europe are chasing victory for the third successive time and Maguire has played down expectations that she will play another crucial role following her unrivalled 4½ point haul in the 2021 victory on opposition soil in Ohio.
But the European defence, led by captain Suzann Pettersen, is bolstered by the likes of Celine Boutier, Charley Hull, Linn Grant and Georgia Hall, all of whom feature with Maguire in the world’s top 20. The hosts are attracting a slim majority of the support and are edging the betting as 10/11 favourites with BoyleSports over Team USA, who are 6/5 underdogs to wrestle the trophy back.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Leona Maguire was the star of the show on her Solheim Cup debut two years ago and it’s no surprise the Irish are rallying behind her again as she’s only gone from strength to strength since.”
