Ireland began their R&A Women’s & Men’s Senior Home Internationals with a narrow 10-8 defeat to England.

The tight affair was level after the morning singles at six apiece with Deirdre Walsh (Milltown), David Mulholland (Castlerock), Peter Sheehan (Ballybunion), Tracy Eakin (Dooks) and Alison Taylor (Malahide) all winning their matches, while Jody Fanagan (Milltown) and Suzanne Corcoran (Portumna) both took half-points.

But it was in the afternoon foursomes that England pulled clear, winning four of the six matches with Gertie McMullen (The Island) and Corcoran battling out a 1UP victory, and Karl Bornemann (Douglas) and Sheehan followed suit in the match behind to secure wins for Ireland.

Due to Scotland scraping a 9.5-8.5 win over Wales, this leaves Ireland in fourth place after day one on 8 points while England lead the way on 10.

Day two sees Ireland take on Scotland and England v Wales and you can follow the live action at the link below.
