England’s Charley Hull is battling a neck injury ahead of her sixth consecutive Solheim Cup appearance for Europe in Finca Cortesin.

Hull noticed a pain when picking up a golf bag last week and having slept funnily on the plane to Spain she elected to sit out Tuesday’s practice session – the only member of Team Europe to do so – and plans to play nine holes on Wednesday alongside Scottish rookie Gemma Dryburgh, Emily Kristine Pedersen and Madelene Sagstrom.

“Yeah I sprained it, it’s still a bit sore so going to play nine holes today and hopefully be OK by Friday,” she told Sky Sports.

“Last week I picked up my golf bag and hurt my back and then every time I looked down, two days later, I had this weird pressure in my head feeling dizzy. Then I slept weirdly on the plane, so I think it was the nerve blocked and it sprained by neck.

“Swinging at 80% as it hurts some of my title on the way down but hitting it good considering!”

Hull made her Solheim Cup debut ten years ago in Colorado as a seventeen-year-old and she feels the biennial contest is only getting bigger.

“It’s pretty crazy to be fair, it’s ten years since my first Solheim Cup in Colorado when I was seventeen but the time is flying.

“I feel like the Solheim in Colorado was massive but Gleneagles you can’t beat that Solheim, there was so many people there.

“It’s a very hilly golf course, good job I have been doing a lot of fitness lately at the end of the day we are sportspeople so a big walk like this shouldn’t hurt us too much.

Despite her neck injury the 27-year-old feels her game is in a good place following her summer exploits which included two runner-up finishes in major championships.

“I feel like my game’s in good shape, but at the end of the day it’s matchplay and anything can happen.

“I’m really looking forward to just going out on the golf course and playing with my friends. It is a lot of fun out there. It’s quite relaxed and Suzann [Pettersen] is a great captain. She’s very easygoing, which I enjoy. I feel like the whole team get along this year. Everyone is pretty chill and it’s nice.

“I think this is a very, very strong team. It’s got a lot of depth as well. Before, we had a lot of strong players but then sometimes the back-end of the team wasn’t as strong. I think we’ve got a good chance this year. I’m looking forward to it.”
