John Gough and Matthew McClean, both instrumental on the first day, will lead off Great Britain and Ireland’s Walker Cup hopes on day two in St Andrews.
In the foursomes matches from 8am on Sunday, the GB&I pair – who have helped Stuart Wilson’s side to a three-point overnight lead – face Caleb Surratt and Ben James. The Scottish duo of Calum Scott – who like Gough won both his games on Saturday – and Connor Graham are also together again to meet US Amateur champion Nick Dunlap and the world’s leading male amateur, Gordon Sargent. Alex Maguire and James Ashfield are in group three against Preston Summerhays and Nick Gabrelcik, with the Irish pair of Liam Nolan and Mark Power then facing Dylan Menante and Austin Greaser.
The afternoon singles features Graham, the youngest player in Walker Cup history aged 16, against three-time Walker Cup winner, Stewart Hagestad, double Graham’s age.
Ireland’s Fab Four make up four of the last five matches and with GB&I needing just six points from tomorrow’s matches, an Irishman may well hole the winning putt.
