Cian Geraghty will take a one shot lead into the final day of the Connemara Pro-Am after he held off some big names on the opening day.
The Co. Louth Golf Club assistant professional began on the back nine and after trading a bogey on 13 with a birdie on 14 he eagled the par-5 18th to turn in two-under-par and he remained on that mark to post an early clubhouse lead with a 70.
Behind him is some stellar talent including three-time Irish PGA champion Simon Thornton who is part of a three-way tie for second on one-under alongside Order of Merit champion Richard Kilpatrick and Eoin O’Brien.
Thornton won the midweek Druids Glen Pro-Am and was second in Galway on Thursday.
The Spa Golf Club professional also began on the back nine and endured a rollercoaster round, carding six birdies and five bogeys and he will be hoping a tidier round can yield his second win in a week.
O’Brien of Clontarf carded three birdies, an eagle and a double bogey in an eventful round of 71.
Ciaran Molloy and Brian McCormack are a shot further back on level-par. Two-time winner this season McCormack eagled the 18th to thrust himself into the mix.
