Hugh Foley has an outside chance at claiming the European Amateur Championship heading into the final round in Estonia.
Foley is six shots off the pace after a two-under 70 which leaves him on sixteen-under-par as Spain’s Jose Luis Ballester Barrio leads on -22 after a 66.
The Royal Dublin golfer who was omitted from Ireland’s six-man team for the European Team Championships next month will rue a double bogey on the par-4 6th which halted his momentum.
Foley had birdied two of his first four holes before adding another on the seventh. A bogey on 9 saw him turn in level-par 37 and just two birdies on 10 and 15 would have been less than he was looking for on the low scoring Parnu Bay Golf Links.
It leaves the Clontarf man in a share of 13th with Kilkenny’s Mark Power two shots further back after a chastening finish which saw him double bogey two of his final four holes for a 70.
Power is eight shots back on fourteen-under but was within four of the lead after birdies on the first, fourth, seventh and eighth holes before an eagle on the par-5 10th.
Royal Dublin’s Max Kennedy is on eleven-under-par after a 69 and he was the last Irishman to make the 54-hole cut which fell at nine-under-par.
Liam Nolan and Matthew McClean missed the cut by the minimum after rounds of 70 and 73 while Roganstown’s Sean Keeling was two shots further back despite a superb 66.
