Roscommon starlet Olivia Costello will take a four shot lead into the final round of the Girls U18 category at the Flogas Irish Women’s and Girls’ Amateur Open Championship.
Costello carded a five-under 69 to soar to seven-under to top the Girls leaderboard while she is fourth in the overall championship and six shy of leader Lorna McClymont.
The 15-year-old carded two birdies in her first three holes before three in four saw her out in 33.
Her chances at winning the Women’s Championship were dealt a serious blow after a double bogey on the par-5 12th but she rallied with birdies on 15, 16 and a beauty on the par-3 17th to come home in 36.
“I held a few nice putts late on which I needed. The course is playing very nice, plenty of run in the fairways the greens are very quick and the weather has been good so far.
“Didn’t play as well here in the Scratch Cup I didn’t leave myself as many chances as I did over the two days so far.”
The Scottish Girls champion leads Marina Joyce-Moreno by four while Baltray’s Ellen O’Shaugnessy is in third on one-under-par, both girls shot two-under 72s.
It’s been a trophy laden period for Costello who added the Schools National title with her Convent of Mercy team last month.
“That was great it was over 40 years since the last time we won it. The team captain has been going for the last couple of years and it was nice for her to get over the line.”
